Valenti Angelo (1897-1982) was an Italian-American illustrator, printer, and author whose career bridged the fine-press movement and mid-century trade publishing. A self-taught artist who emigrated from Tuscany to California in 1905, he became associated with San Francisco's Grabhorn Press and illustrated more than 250 books, celebrated for their hand-tooled linocuts and warm, human subjects. His own novels - Nino, Golden Gate, Paradise Valley, and Look Out Yonder, reflect his deep empathy for immigrant and working-class life and his eye for the spiritual beauty of ordinary people.
