268 pages, hardcover with color illustrated dust jacket, 7 5/8" by 5 3/8". First edition. Ultra-rare pulp fiction novel from the early 30's, featuring the face of silent screen legend Louise Brooks on the color dust jacket, one of only a handful - and the first - of non-cinema books to feature her on the cover. Story concerns a woman who enters the underworld in Chicago to search for her brother. The author (a pseudonym for Robert Ferdinand Burkhardt) published numerous and now-rare pulp fiction novels; several books were adapted to films in the 1930's, and he later worked as a Hollywood publicist. Interior of the book is clean and unsullied, binding is firm. The color dust jacket (kept snug under Mylar protective sleeve) is in excellent shape considering its age and scarcity, aside from minor small chipping at head and foot of spine, light age toning, and a one-inch tear to top right corner. Front free endpaper features a 1930's bookplate with a penned name; penned date at top of 4-5-34.
