273 pp. Two essays, one on Sir Francis Bacon, one on Sir Walter Raleigh, written by the editor of the Edinburgh Review and the Encyclopaedia Britannica. The Bacon essay was read in 1818 to the Royal Society of Edinburgh and reprinted in its Transactions. The Life of Sir Walter Raleigh appeared in the Edinburgh Review in the 1830s. Cover corners slightly frayed, spine worn at top and bottom edges. Cover somewhat soiled. Front hinge slightly cracked inside. Contents clean and tight. Book in good shape for age.
