The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring; The Two Towers; The Return of the King

Three octavo volumes. 423; 352; 416 pp. First edition, later impressions: The Fellowship of the Ring, eleventh impression; The Two Towers, eighth impression; The Return of the King, eighth impression, all issued in 1961. Publisher's original red cloth, spines lettered and decorated in gilt; top edges stained red. Light rubbing and minor wear at spine ends and corners; gilt remains bright and legible. Text blocks clean. Lacking dust jackets and publisher's slipcase. Folding maps at rear of each volume present. An attractive early uniform set of Tolkien's fantasy trilogy, still within the first-edition printing sequence. These 1961 impressions retain the classic Allen & Unwin red-cloth bindings and Tolkien-designed title-page ornamentation. .
