John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1954-55) ?The Lord of the Rings?, UK first edition and first impression set, published by George Allen and Unwin. The set consists of:
The Fellowship of the Ring (1954), a first impression, one of 3,000 copies. A very good copy with light bumps to bottom spine and rear board corner. Boards clean, page block clean, the lettering on the spine somewhat dulled. The original dust jacket has had extensive restoration work done with tears mended, chips and missing sections filled.
The Two Towers (1954), a first impression, one of 3,250 copies. A near fine copy with light shelf wear, vibrant lettering on the spine, boards and pag block clean. The original dust jacket has undergone minor restoration work with tears mended, and chips filled to top of the spine.
The Return of the King (1955), first impression one of 7,000 copies. Variant with ?4? and sagging ?s? of Legolas on page 49. Near fine condition with minor shelf wear, clean boards, clean page block edges and vibrant lettering to spine. The original dust jacket has had minor restoration work with mended tears and a small chip to top spine filled.
All three volumes are the original red cloth bindings with their original maps attached at the back. All books are internally clean without any previous owners? scribbles inside.
Presenatation: the books are housed in full red leather solander cases for protection. Each case displays the Eye of Sauron at the front just like the dust jackets do with the respective volume?s title stamped above. The solanders? spines have five raised bands with the author, title, edition, and publisher stamped in gild. The boxes are housed in a white buckram slipcase for easy transportation. A wonderful, luxurious presentation of this decent LOTR set.
