The author penned this work from stories he heard from trappers in Missouri in 1844-46 as well as from incidents taken from Captain Williams' journal. This is an exciting story of the early days and includes Indians, Indian fighting, fur trade, the Rockies, the Plains, New Mexico, California, Oregon, Kansas, Missouri, etc. A nice clean, tight and unmarked and unfoxed book. There were five printings published after the first 1847 edition--this is one of the five subsequent printings. Professionally rebacked with original spine laid down making this a very usable book (about 1 cm of top portion of original spine missing, not affecting printing and actually barely noticeable) .
