Burford Delannoy, 1856-1931, born Adolphus Eugene Judge, was a barrister, playwright, actor, and novelist, who performed and wrote under the name Delannoy, which was inspired by his mother's maiden name. The son of a bookseller, Delannoy wrote a number of detective stories from 1897 until his death. The cover art depicts a well-dressed woman walking through a door while looking back at a man tipping his hat. A later iteration of the 'yellowback' format, incorporating a cloth spine, presumably to look impressive on a railway bookstand. Seller Inventory # 100266
