THE INNER MEANING OF TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS:: Teaching Resurrected from Legends and Ritual

The Inner Meaning of Traditional Festivals - The adventure of discovering timeless meaning - What purpose can be served by a book purporting to reveal liberating inner meanings in religious festivals and scriptures that supersede their literal interpretations? It may well be visualised by students of life who already feel that transforming genuine knowledge into real understanding depends on a person’s own efforts. - For them, such fresh knowledge can give an insight into intriguingly disguised spiritual prophecies and instructions. This book also endeavours to show, through the words of enlightened teachers, how ordinary individuals can practise these liberating ideas. For it indicates the possible benefits in everyday life that can arise from intensified cosmic influences during festival periods, when Eternity is said to touch Time. - Well-known Fourth Way writers – including G.I. Gurdjieff, P.D. Ouspensky and Maurice Nicoll – are quoted within but a central part is taken by Beryl Pogson (1895–1967), who led English groups studying this discipline, also called the Work, during the 1950s and 1960s. - Her reading of Ouspensky’s early books gave her ‘an emotional experience, unforgettable, of recognising something I knew to be true but had forgotten’ and ‘I saw the adventure that lay before me of discovering the inner meaning of The New Testament.’
