First Edition of Military Laws, prepared by the Adjutant General's Office in Richmond, Virginia. Previous owner's name on the title page, likely the John Horsley (1787-1850) of Nelson Couty, who married Philadelphia Hamilton Dunscomb and Mary Mildred Cabell. He is described as "a merchant, farmer, and became a wealthy man of affairs whose enterprises are mentioned not infrequently in Hennings' Statues" (Cavanagh, 41). Scribbling in pencil to the endpapers; corner of loss to the rear endpaper; toning and very slight foxing throughout. Minor loss to the top of the spine; front board reattached by a conservator using Japanese tissue. Quarter calf with a red leather label, over marble paper covered boards.
