NEAR FINE book. Leech & Browne engravings. Orig panels & spine bound in @ back. TEG. Riviere SIGNS elaborate gilt turn in. Turn ins triple ruled, egg & dart & floral decor, all in gilt. Bound & SIGNED "Bound by Riviere & Son" on the turn in, "& Son" was only added post 1880. Boards edges triple ruled in gilt. Gilt dotted raised ribs. Spine panels w elaborate gilt floral design. Lower outer hinges a bit tender. Scuffed tips & lower edges. FINE inside BUT: scattered very light foxing. TEG bright as new. Other edges spotless. Also book stays closed when stood on edge. This binding seems to be the most elaborate Riviere offerred for this series. See same book in BIBLIO for more scans. NEAR FINE book. 1st illus ed. Full red morroco with ornate gilt.
