First edition. The first inaugural issue of the literary journal MSS that John Gardner edited and published in Chico, California. Publisher's printed wrappers as issued. Dated "Summer 1961" on spine and "Spring 1961" at the beginning page. An unmarked copy, with publisher's subscription card tipped in to rear, creasing to the covers with some rubbing and a bit of abrasion to rear cover presumably from a former price sticker removed, closed tears to spine and some nicks to edges. Rare.
