A decent, undated hardback first edition (1944 according to the British Library) in a scruffy dust jacket. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper (see image). There is some foxing to all 3 edges, and to the opening pages, but the binding is secure and the main contents are clean. By modern standards the typeface is small and compact (see example). The dust jacket has not been price-clipped but is scruffy: creased, chipped, rubbed, worn and torn, with some soiling to the lower cover and a few areas of loss, most notably in the top right-hand corner of the upper cover (see images). Overall, a good hardback copy of this uncommon item, in a very shelf worn dust jacket. Signed by author.
