Add to basketMAETERLINCK THE MAGIC OF THE STARS 1930 FIRST AMERICAN EDITION VERY GOOD. Maurice Maeterlinck was born in Belgium, a native Flemish-speaker but wrote in French and was awarded the 1911 Noble Prize for Literature. I am pleased to be able to offer for your consideration a First American Edition of: The Magic of the Stars, by Maurice Maeterlinck, translated from the French by his long-term friend and translator (himself an Author) Alfred Sutro. This small hard cover book (5 ½ x 7 ½ inches, 146 pages) was published by Dodd, Mead & Company of New York, dated 1930 and the First American Edition. The book is bound in light green cloth with blind-stamped flower decorations and a gilt stamped title panel on the cover and once gilt titles on the spine. The endpapers are decorated with a sort of art deco motif. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled and the gilt titles on the cover a bit worn but still fully legible. Those on the spine are barely legible and there is an unfortunate bruise on the title panel of the spine. The rear cover has some tiny white dots paint splatter, I assume but otherwise, the covers are quite presentable. A former owner has left her neatly penciled name on the front endpaper but that was the only mark I found in the book. It does not appear to have been heavily read as at least one of the latter pages is still uncut. Both hinges are fully intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
