Solid, attractive first edition. Dark blue ribbed cloth boards with gold decoration and lettering on cover and spine. Quite clean, no fading. Small spots of wear at spine corners. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Some pages have light foxing - no names, writing or bookplates. Gilt top edges. Frontispiece portrait of Riis with tissue guard. Many illustrations throughout. 443 pages. Jacob August Riis was a Danish-American social reformer, "muckraking" journalist and social documentary photographer. He contributed significantly to the cause of urban reform in America at the turn of the twentieth century. This is his autobiography. Seller Inventory # 32702
