Making Printer's Typefaces

SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Norman W. Forgue at the colophon page: " One of the "50 books of the year Norman W. Forgue". Colophon states " Printer's Note. This volume, the first in a series of books about the Graphic Arts was designed by the author, R. Hunter Middleton and Norman W. Forgue. The typefaces are Linotype Granjon and Ludlow Garamond. Printed on Strathmore Highway Book paper by the Black Cat Press, Chicago. Completed during the month of April, 1938." Gray cloth covered boards with gilt design to the front and gilt lettering to the spine. Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket, with a 1/4" closed tear at top edge front panel. RARE, and especially SIGNED by Forgue. One of the best books on the subject. Norman W. Forgue was an American bookmaker, typographer, and founder of several private presses, including At the Sign of the Gargoyle, The Black Cat Press, The Norman Press, and Normandie House.
