Item description from seller

Boston, Massachusetts: G. K. Hall & Co., 1987. Brand New in perfect condition. Bright, shiny, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. NOT a library discard. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Fresh and crisp -- obviously never read. Hardcover. First Printing. Consists of an introduction, 9-page primary bibliography of Gorky's writings (1892-1941), and a 195-page annotated, secondary bibliography of works about him. Includes European, American, and Russian publications. Author Index. Subject Index. Bound in the original maroon cloth, lettered in shiny gold on the spine. From the preface: "Maksim Gorky and his works have been the subject of a large number of Soviet bibliographies. These publications are unfortunately biased and therefore only moderately useful: they register only Soviet sources and ignore Western and Russian à migrà writing. As the first English-language research, the present work is intended to provide basic secondary sources. It could not and does not try to duplicate the massive Soviet bibliographies. Here most attention is devoted to what the Soviets leave out: European (both East and West) and American sources as well as all available Russian à migrà publications. Particular attention is given to periods, issues, and themes about which scholars disagree. A primary bibliography provides the reader with publication data for Russian and English editions of Gorky's major works." . First Edition. Hardcover. New/No jacket, as issued. 8vo. xxvii, 226pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

Store description

About Books [Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and out of print books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail order catalogue, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of more than 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialities listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you want to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please only between the hours of 8am and 10pm, west coast time. Our phone is a landline that cannot receive texts.
