About this Item
The first edition of this vanishingly scarce novel surrounding the curious life of Professor Freyling, inspired by true events, written by J. J. Nelson. The first edition. Exceptionally scarce work. Bound in the publisher's cloth. Written by English solicitor and author, John James Nelson, who wrote three novels during his lifetime, all of which are vanishingly scarce. In this intriguing science-fiction tale, the ingenious scientist Professor Freyling is at the head of an innovative experiment to create a human being in an entirely new way, combining different elements together to form 'A Man of Parts'. 'A Man of Parts' was inspired by the author's accidental purchase of a collection of books at a Book Auction Mart in London before the First World War. One of these books contained the bookplate, scientific formula and diary entries of one Professor Freyling, a scientist who had just passed away. This character of Professor Freyling is the focal point to Nelson's novel, as an attempt to "make fact pass as fiction".With the ink inscription of J. R. Lock to the front endpaper. Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, very good, with light rubbing and a little bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and rear board, with small tear to the rear joint and slight loss to the cloth on the spine. Light spotting to endpapers and fore edge. Offsetting to endpapers with an ink inscription to the front. Internally, firmly bound with bright, clean pages. Good. Seller Inventory # 909Q20
