First printing. 8vo. xiii, 401 pp. 191 illustrations. Modern rebind in plain, unprinted dark gray leatherette; all edges gilt. Thorndike (1863-1940 ) was a Harvard Medical School surgeon, and is known for co-founding (with Bradford) the Industrial School for Crippled and Deformed Children in Boston in 1884, said to be the first school in the country for children with disabilities. Later re-named Cotting School. Blindstamp title page else tight, near fine. Uncommon.
