About this Item

Original publisher's dark purply-blue decorated cloth covered boards with mild edgewear, soil and scuffing; corners and spine ends bumped; spine is lightly toned. Gilt to spine is still bright and only lightly rubbed. Binding sound, text clean. Interior lightly toned, with scattered small dark age spots throughout. B/w illustrations. Tissue guard over frontis is lightly foxed and has a large piece missing. Several tiny tears and creases to page edges and corners. No previous owner names, stickers or stamps. Not ex-library. 316 pp. A scarce book in unusually nice condition. This book is best known for its content on early baseball. There are 18 pages on the rules, as well as named clubs and their locations, plus a diagram of a baseball diamond and a model score book. Several other interesting and less common sports are detailed within, including "Indian club exercises", fencing, broadsword, skating, sailing and more.
