For one thing, it is not about 'Bloomsbury' as such, it is a revealing study of the lives of two of its most remarkable members - Leonard and Virginia Woolf. For anothger, it draws extensively of the massive Woolf archives at the University of Sussex which have only recently been sorted and catalogued by George Spater. And thirdly, the book is illustrated with a copious selection of photographs from Leonard Woolf's private album, most of which have never before been published. This in itself gives the book a unique documentary value.
