Add to basket"Mars At Its Nearest" by George Hall Hamilton Extremely Rare First Edition 1925. 9" x 5 3/4" - 90 Pages. The book is in good minus condition, free from rips, tears, bends and writing. There are 9 black and white plates within the book. There are some light stains and page 45 is still left uncut. The erratum page is still present. The boards are in good minus condition with light rubbing to the leather. The binding is tight and square. This is an extremely rare book, possibly a limited edition and only a few copies worldwide. George Hall Hamilton (b. 1884) was an astronomer, and former professor of astronomy at Bellevue College, Nebraska. From 1917-1922 he was an astronomer at the Lowell Observatory, and from 1922-1924, the Harvard Observatory. Professor Hamilton was an enthusiastic observer of Mars, and a proponent of the theory that Mars was inhabited by intelligent beings, due to what appeared to be a vast network of canals.
