Martin Tupper. His Rise and Fall

Hardback. Royal Society of Arts Library sticker to inside cover saying Withdrawn From the RSA Library. Green cloth with gilt lettering. With a Foreword by the Rev. Martin E. Tupper, grandson of the author of 'Proverbial Philosophy'. This biography is based on the 'literary archives'. Tupper's own book of reminiscences, 'My Life as an Author', contains a good many inaccuracies and some exaggerations; I have used it with caution as a seconday source. In the pages that follow I have made no attempt to disguise Tupper's shortcomings or to avoid anuthing that might throw light on this most remarkable character. Illustrated. 342 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).
