This book documents Mary Pickford's early work as a comedienne in the films she made for the Biograph Company, for whom she made practically a film a week in the time she worked for them between 1909-1912 (when she was 17 to 20 years old). Virtually all of these early Biograph films were directed by D.W. Griffith. A unique and scrupulously researched study of cinema's first female superstar.
