Premier livre consacr� � Mathieu Van Assche et � ses � photographies sabot�es � � Depuis plusieurs ann�es, je r�cup�re, ach�te et collecte de vieilles photos, d'anciens portraits d'identit� et photos de famille issues d'une autre �poque. Petit � petit, j'ai commenc� � dessiner au posca (feutre peinture) � m�me ces photos originales, d'abord comme un jeu et sans projet particulier. Ensuite, comme le support me plaisait parti�culi�rement, j'ai continu� � d�velopper cette approche en mettant en place un dialogue entre l'illustration et le support photographique. Je me suis mis � masquer les visages en m'�loignant de ces portraits un peu fig�s pour y amener une forme de folie, de myst�re, d'�tranget�. Puisant mon inspiration tant dans l'effervecence des quartiers populaires que dans l'imagerie du sacr�, ou dans la tradition du masque dans les soci�t�s dites primitives, les pistes se brouillent et na�t un univers qui devient mien. Mon monde est � la fois onirique et caboss�, peupl� de doux monstres et de cr�atures fantasmagoriques dans lequel le spectateur se laissera entra�ner presque malgr� lui. � Mathieu Van Assche
