About this Item

Description:

THE MASTERS BOOK OF IKEBANA RICHIE & WEATHERBY 1966 1ST TIPPED-IN COLOR PLATES. An easy way to describe this book is to tell you that it is almost as lovely as the classic Japanese Flower Arrangement art that it depicts. I am very pleased to be able to offer a very large hard cover book, titled: The Masters Book of Ikebana Background and Principles of Japanese Flower Arrangement, edited by Donald Richie & Meredith Weatherby. As noted on the title page, the book offers lessons from the masters of Japan s three foremost schools: Sen ei Ikenobo, Houn Ohara, and Sofu Teshigahara. This very large hard cover book (11 x 14 x 2 inches, 272 pages) was published by Bijutsu Shippan-Sha of Tokyo, dated 1966 and the First Edition (so stated). The large hard cover book is bound in genuine kimono-silk cloth with a flower pattern, with a cherry wood veneer Ikebana label on the cover, and a wrap-around band handmade of hand-crumpled Japanese paper. Please see the photo of the description of the binding design. Also included is a photo of the Table of Contents for your further information. The book is lavishly illustrated in color and b&w, with several fold-out plates, and many tipped-in color plates. The whole book is encased in a form-fitted plastic sleeve which has protected by book of the years. The 12 photos of an eBay listing can hardly do justice to this gorgeous book, itself a masterpiece. I doubt you can find such a lovely book about such a lovely subject, and especially in this condition. Condition: This book is in very good plus plus condition. The plastic sleeve shows some wear and aging, including rippling and dust-dulling. This sleeve, however, has completely protected the hard covers and the band that surrounds them. The hard covers have been very slightly bumped. Inside, the book is unmarked, and the pages and plates are clean, bright and gorgeous, from cover to cover. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Seller Inventory # 142
