Prachtvolles, reich illustriertes Medizinalpflanzenwerk mit sorgfältig kolorierten Kupferstichtafeln von James Sowerby, darunter dekorative Abbildungen von Arnica, Malve, Rosen, Weintraube, Orangen, Orchidee, Lilien, Krokus, Veilchen, Ingwer, Rhododendron, Löwenzahn etc. Jede Kupfertafel mit gegenüberstehendem Text (teilweise 2-3 Seiten!). Frischer Erhaltungszustand (ausgenommen S. 247-250 in Bd. II mit stärkeren Stockflecken). Das Werk ist mit diesen 3 Bänden abgeschlossen. Im Jahr 1794 war dann noch ein (hier nicht vorliegender) Supplementband erschienen. William Woodville (1752-1805), a London physician, was elected a member of the Linnean Society in 1791. The current work "Medical Botany" and his research on smallpocks vaccination were his major contribution to science. His "Medical Botany" was published by the Royal College of Physicians of London. "From the time that it was published till the appearence of Bentley and Trimen's 'Medical Plants' (1875) Woodville's 'Medical Botany' remained the standard work illustrating the plants of the British Pharmacopoeia" (Henrey II,32). A very fine, complete set in uniform modern green-marbled half-vellum binding, with a clean interior and fresh and vivid colouring (exepted p. 227-250 in vol. II with dark foxings).
