About this Item
"MEGDA" by Emma Dunham Kelley. 1891 1st edition; James H. Earle; Boston. With a frontispiece portrait of Kelley and decorative floral end papers. There is a 6-page publisher's catalog at the back. A somewhat controversial author due to speculation of her race, Kelley was long considered to be a pioneer of African-American women's literature. Recent genealogical research indicates, however, that Kelley was likely white, or identified herself as white. Condition: Some spotting along the spine, the right edge of the back cover, and the bottom edge of the front cover; sharp corners; bright gilt on the front cover and spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Clean, lightly tanned pages with no writing, stains or foxing; 1/2" at the outer edge of page 143. There is a small chip at the outer edge of page 393. Overall the book is in very good condition. Seller Inventory # ABE-1627334921532
