23 x 15 cm. Octavo. [x], 583, 24 of ads. Green cloth. Rubbing to the edges of the boards with a small piece missing from the top of the spine. Previous owner's bookplate inside front cover. Previous owner's name written on front end paper. Pages are still attached but just barely in some places. Crack to hinge between page x and 10. A working copy which would benifit from a professional rebinding. Forbes is considered one of the fathers of marine biology and oceanography. He was best known for the quickly dispproven azoic theory which states that marine life could not exist below 300 fathoms.
