About this Item
Small Octavo. Portrait frontispiece, 234 pages. One of the very scarce early histories of Daniel Webster. The long section beginning on page 186 deals with his appreciation of the Constitution. Here he speaks of Hamilton, Jay, and Madison with insights into how its advantages applied to the law. Written during the middle of Webster's public life, he notes how strong Webster saw the importance of the Constitution (though he does not mention the latter's disgust with Jackson), A fascinating account at a turning point in his career. Bound in boards backed in brown cloth, paper spine label lettered in black worn, early owner's name on recto of frontispiece and Webster's last name marked out, a bit of wear to corners. A very good copy. Seller Inventory # 029189
