H. H. Asquith was Prime Minister of the UK 1908-1916. He was the last prime minister to lead a majority Liberal government and lead Britain into WWI. This is his 2 volume memoirs, published after his death. No previous owner marks - text, illustrations, and maps clean and bright. Fold-out map in Volume 2 is present. Both volumes bound in green cloth with gilded top page edges. Dust jackets both age darkened. Dust jackets have moderate edgewear including small tears, most serious of which are very small missing pieces at the spine edges. Slipcase is present, but is missing the top panel entirely, slipcase in Poor condition. Dust jackets protected in Mylar. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. American first editions (not stated but with single printing line upon copyright pages). Battered and soiled slipcase separating at seams and missing top panel. Hardcovers: H 24.25cm x L 16.25cm. Dust jackets toned and soiled with chipping and tears. Green cloth; some mottling to Vol. I spine and rear board; gilt stamping to spines and front boards remains reasonably bright. Gilt top edges; deckle fore-edges. Past owner's ink gift inscriptions on front pastedowns but discreetly hidden underneath dj front flaps; light toning/soiling to endpapers; interior leaves remain clean. Bindings retain some crispness. Please note that this set has an approximate shipping weight of 6 pounds (2.72 kg) and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
