First Edition (UK first edition, 1950, under US copyright, 1949). No markings, annotations, or inscriptions. Internally fine. Uniform toning to front and back endpapers, text block top edge dust-toned. Rare unclipped dust jacket, showing conspicuous loss to the spine ends and the corners, local edge wear, small price-label abrasion to spine tail, otherwise clean and complete. (Now in a protective plastic cover.) Red cloth with gilt titling to the spine and front bottom corner. The boards remain clean, sound, and tolerably sharp, with a press to the spine ends and a gentle bump to the front top corner. Frontis, xix, 609pp. Illustrated. Seller Inventory # 4290
