The exterior is worn, and shows wear marks, edge wear, scuffs and scratches on the front cover, spine and back cover. The front cover show signs of have been partly bent. Several scratches on the front cover, spine and back cover which removed part of the paperback outside colour. The spine show several wear marks, scuffs and small chip at the bottom, which affected the lettering, which is slightly worn. Interior with minor signs of wear.; "Information about the structure of materials and technology of manufacture of ancient and historic objects and artifacts can provide insight into their date, place of origin, and probable use. Investigations of structure may also be very important for documentation, preservation strategy, or conservation treatment. For many decades objects from a variety of materials and dating from prehistory to the present have been scientifically studied, many of them by metallographic techniques. Most of the results are scattered throughout the international literature, are some- times inaccessible, and often not published at all. Frequently the need has been expressed, in national and international meetings, to collect information on certain types of objects or classes of materials in one place and to make it available as a database or publication. This volume is an attempt to provide a measured amount of information regarding the techniques of metallography as they apply to ancient and historic metals. It is illustrated with many examples of different types of microstructure, drawn from David Scott's many years of experience in this field of study. We hope that the present volume, developed with the guidance of Dr. Frank Preusser, Associate Director, Programs, GCI, will be a useful book for students, conservators, conservation scientists, and workers in the area of metallography, especially those seeking to understand the nature of microstructure as it applies to ancient materials.
