Small 8vo, pp [6], 120, [2, errata], bound in 19th Century cloth backed marbled flush boards, several leaves slightly wormed into text without loss of sense, lightly browned, else good, FIRST EDITION, sole printing of this plea for the estabiishment of village schools by the Presbyterian Churches of the community. The year 1709 marks the establishment of The Society in Scotland for Propogating Christian Knowledge, with John Dundas as its secretary until his death in 1731. The Society was 'an influential core of Scottish Presbyterians [led] to advocate a national charitable corporation to support Highland education.' Little else is recorded about Dundas, presumably a lawyer, but the society would later expand its activities into missionary work in America.
