In this, Goddard described his mathematical theory on rocket flight, experiments with solid-fuel rockets and what he saw as a potential to explore the upper limited of the earth's atmosphere and beyond. Considered the first treatise on using rockets for space flight, this paper ushered in an era of space flight and innovation. Within weeks of publication, the press had sensationalized this paper, causing shifts in the popular imagination through science fiction, and ultimately leading to the idea that the rocket would be the way to reach space. Goddard theories and work anticipated many of the developments that made space-flight possible.
