About this Item
Inscribed First Edition, First Printing of this World War I era discussion of the Mexican economy and its relation to the U.S. economy by a founding father of American financial journalism, Clarence W. Barron. Barron was an early -- and pivotal owner -- of the Wall Street Journal and founder of Barron's Magazine. In this book, Barron examined the Mexican economy and political economy -- with a particular focus on American oil interests in Mexico. Barron inscribed the book on the front endpaper in this manner: "The United States desires only to benefit the good people of Mexico - Clarence W. Barron." Beneath his signature, Barron goes on to write: "Manuel Carpio, Merida de Yuctan said at Boston, June 17. 1918." Barron then quotes a lengthy pro America-as-mentor-to-Mexico statement apparently made by Carpio in Boston. Carpio, then editor of La Voz de la Revolucion" in Merida, had been part of a group of Mexican editors and journalists who made a goodwill tour of the U.S. in mid 1918 and appeared at numerous public gatherings. Green cloth with gilt titles, 136 pages. There's a non-author inscription ("To Rosette Rodgers from Mrs. Carpio") on the front page down page. There's a stain on the back cover. The gilt has rubbed off the titles on the spine. We'll cheerfully provide photos upon request. Seller Inventory # 013367
