Full calf, two gilt-lettered black morocco spine labels. Notable scuffing, spine ends and tips of corners worn bare, amateur tape repair at joints, front hinge, and verso of title page. Blind stamp of the Historical Society of Montana. The name of O.A. Southmayd [2nd Lt., I Company, 18th Wisconsin Regiment] is stamped on front and back covers, making this presumably his copy. Overall, just Good; contents, however, are VG+ to NF. See scans. Association example of the extremely rare 1866 first edition of E.B. Quiner's much sought-after compendium of factual information on the title subject, one which has been so admired that a year 2000 reprint has recently been published, sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Civil War Round Table. Quiner covers virtually every detail of every Wisconsin regiment in his famous opus, making it a Civil War specific reference source unexceeded in information quality and quantity, to the point that even genealogists seek it. O.A. Southmayd, whose name is stamped into the calf leather covers, front and back, was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 18th Wisconsin Regiment during its courageous and famous performance at the battle of Shiloh, where he ultimately was one of eleven commissioned officers captured at the culmination of the intense Hornet's Nest action there (more at: 18th Wisconsin).
