The contents include lectures and reviews of such subjects as Education, Popular Fallacies, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Wealth and Free Government, Orchard Culture, Election of Judges, Self-Culture, &c.Joseph Gibson Hoyt (1815-1862), b. Dumbarton, NH; d. St. Louis, MO. Hoyt was Washington University's (Saint Louis) first chancellor. Previous to that post he had been for 18 years professor of mathematics and natural philosophy at Phillips Exeter Academy, in Exeter, New Hampshire.
