This copy does NOT have any library markings. First Edition, First Printing. Garrison-Morton 255.2. One of the major works of the so-called modern (or evolutionary) synthesis in biology. Columbia University Press published four works from 1937-1950, which were the core of this synthesis. Simpson’s book was the third of the four, the others being Theodosius Dobzhansky’s Genetics and the Origin of Species (1937), Ernst Mayr’s Systematics and the Origin of Species (1942), and Ledyard Stebbins’s Variation and Evolution in Plants (1950).
