The very scarce first edition of this already very scarce cookery work.Bound in half black morocco, with paper covered boards.With an engraved frontispiece, title page vignette and six pages containing woodcuts of table placements.Pagination runs as issued.A charming collection of recipes, penned anonymously under "A Lady", with hints on roasting, frying, boiling, stewing, potting, pastries and cakes. Recipes include hash of a calf's head, ragoo sweetbreads, suet dumplings, beef and veal olives, black puddings and raisin wine.Bound to the end of the work is a plate titled 'Trussing' which was not originally issued with this work, followed by twenty pages, most of which have been filled with charming contemporary inscribed recipes from the previous owners. These recipes include ginger wine, lemon brandy, plum cake and gingerbread snaps. Bound in half black morocco, with paper covered boards. Gilt to the spine.Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and scuffing to the boards. Hinges and joints remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are toned more so towards the front and rear of the work, with spotting throughout. Loss to the bottom half of the last page. Inscriptions to the front and rear endpapers and paste downs. Good.
