Item description from seller

This is the ORIGINAL HARDCOVER EDITION with a 1902 copyright date of Prof. Wirth's uncommon "Quadrille Call Book." This book has 2 additional dances and a glossary of French words making it 7 pages longer than another edition with same 1902 copyright date, but a different cover illustration. The Quadrille originated in France and was popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Four couples formed a square, and the dancers responded to a caller who called out the steps to a musical background. It is the precursor of the American square dance. There are three b&w illustrations. Original publisher's cream cloth covers with black spine lettering and a decorated front cover with dancers and blue lettering. The covers have some soiling, but the lettering and cover illustration are clear and bright. There is also a tiny snag to the edge of the spine toward the bottom, else this is a clean, tight, and unmarked book with no previous owner names or bookplates. 148 pages with 10 pages of publisher's ads in the rear. ; B&W Illustrations; 12mo, 7" - 7½" tall; 148 pages.
