About this Item
1932. First edition. viii, [i], followed by 50 unpaginated pages of tips, each with a facing illustration. There is an 8-page catalogue at the end of the book. Robert H. K. Browning (1884-1957) was a scholarly golf historian from Scotland who became prominent as the editor of Golfing, the premier British golfing periodical, from 1910 to 1955. His major claim to fame is his book, A History of Golf, which the late Herbert Warren Wind described as ??far and away the finest one-volume history of golf.? The present book is a commentary by diagram on fifty essential points of the methods of the world's greatest golfers, each diagram accompanied by a short analysis in which the author endeavours to seize upon the common factor of methods that may sometimes appear contradictory. The fifty tips take the reader from tee to green. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the bottom corners and spine ends. There is a touch of fading at both spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with a little scattered light foxing. There is also foxing on the fore edge of the text block and on a few pages this has seeped a little way into the fore margin. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and the spine is slkightly browned. The top of the spine is bumped and missing about 1/8" to 1/4" and small pieces are missing from the corner tips. Seller Inventory # gGolf23
