About this Item
This first edition-stated book explores the design and construction of one of the greatest projects of American art, a symbol that many hold as dearly as they do the Statue of Liberty. This architectural and engineering feat was the work of the temperamental and eradicate genius Guetzon Borglum. What makes this copy particularly interesting is inclusion of a letter, addressed to The Honorable Louis C. Cramton, who was then Assistant to the Secretary of the Interior and formerly a Congressman from Michigan. The letter was sent by John A. Boland, then president of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society of the Black Hills, who cites factual errors in the book. Interestingly, a black and white photo of Mount Rushmore--taken from the access road--is printed onto the reverse side of the Society's letterhead. This Near Fine condition book has some minor wear on top and bottom of spine and tips; otherwise clean, tight, and bright. The Very Good dustjacket, which shows generalized wear with very minor chipping at top and bottom of spine, has the original $3.75 price on flap. Seller Inventory # 100518-1
