Lovely first edition of this classic book by Rumer Godden, delicate illustrations by William pene du bois, The mousewife lets the caged dove out after he has told her about the stars and hills and countryside. She never regrets what she did although she had lost a friend. This story is taken from one written down in her journal by Dorothy Wordsworth for her brother William. Her mouse did not let the dove out of the cage. Rumer Godden made sure her mouse did. 40pp 23cm x 16cm Text and illustrations Very GoodBlue boards sl sunned at edges.
