First edition of Joseph B. Schechtman?s political biography of Haj Amin el-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. Schechtman traces el-Husseini?s rise to prominence during the British Mandate, his involvement in Palestinian Arab politics, his wartime relationship with Nazi Germany, and his subsequent political decline.

The volume contains 336 pages and is illustrated with a black-and-white photographic frontispiece and additional photographic plates. Contemporary bookseller records identify the 1965 Thomas Yoseloff edition as the first edition and first printing.

Condition: Red cloth-covered boards with black spine lettering. The binding remains square and secure. Boards show rubbing, scattered scratches, pale scuff marks, and several small abrasions or spots of cloth wear. Spine ends and corners have light wear. Page edges are age-toned; the photographed interior pages appear clean and firmly attached. The original dust jacket is present but in poor condition, with extensive old clear-tape repairs, multiple tears and punctures, creasing, surface soiling, rubbing, chipped corners and spine ends, and areas of paper loss. Several repairs are visible both externally and on the jacket?s reverse. The jacket remains substantially present but is fragile and should be handled carefully.
