FIRST EDITION, 1757, first printing, Vol.1 Part 1. (although promised, the second volume never appeared). 4to, approixmately 255 x 200 mm, 10 x 8 inches, full page engraved plate facing page 260, which is the explanation of the plate, pages: vi, [2 - list of subscribers], 1- 294, last 4 pages are index, new calf spine with original old gilt lettered label, gilt rules between raised bands to spine, old marbled boards, new brown endapers keeping 2 original endpapers at front and 1 at rear, armorial bookplate with "WOTTON" at foot. Slight rubbing to boards, crease to title page, pale patchy stains to index, (see attached image), some occasional pale foxing and age-browning, ink name to first free endpaper. A very good copy. At foot of page 290: 'The end of part I" and Finis at foot of page 294, In the later printing they removed "Vol.1 Part 1" from title page and "Finis" was printed at the foot of page 290.
