16 pp. Tailpiece. 4to: A - B4. 8-5/8" x 6-7/8" "The 'Charitable Corporation' was an institution intended to provide low cost loans for the poor. In essence it was a large pawn-broking scheme, which provided 'relief of the industrious poor by assisting them with small sums upon pledges at legal interest'. Corruption and fraud were soon associated with the organisation, with Smollett calling it a 'nefarious corporation'. The scheme collapsed in 1731." [quoted from a RBH listing]. Disbound, now housed in an archival mylar sleeve.
