Many plates with blotchy areas of foxing especially to versos, off-setting commonly found. Both vols expertly respined with new endpapers. Original covers slightly rubbed. Squier was an American archaeologist from Bethlehem, New York, appointed special chargé d'affaires to the Central American states in 1849 in which role he negotiated treaties with Nicaragua, Honduras, and San Salvador. In 1871 he was elected the first president of the Anthropological Institute of New York. He conducted ethnological studies, especially in Nicaragua, Honduras and Peru. Seller Inventory # 1014
