First edition, so stated. Fine in fine dust jacket, lightly soiled at rear panel, not price clipped, $4.95 price intact, in protective mylar cover. "The third of this author's stories set in a small French village -- a little more raisonnable than the earlier ones even if that can't be said of Fiona, the childless child-wife of autocratic Viktor Rolland who despairs of her ever running the household properly while she plays with dolls. When he is suddenly shot in the head, she marries again -- Rene who is ambitious and extravagant and canny -- but not canny enough to realize what Fiona is doing. . . to him." -- Kirkus Review.
