José-Maria de Heredia (La Fortuna, 1842 - castello di Bourdonné, 1905) poeta francese d'origine cubana, eletto all'Académie Française nel 1894. Fu uno dei massimi esponenti del Parnassianesimo. Catalina de Erauso, nota anche come La Monja Alférez (La Suora Tenente) (Donostia, 1592 - Cuetlaxtla, 1650), fu una leggendaria personalità spagnola nella prima metà del XVII secolo. Figlia del capitano Miguel de Erauso, a quattro anni entrò nel convento domenicano di San Sebastián el Antiguo assieme a due sue sorelle. Oppressa e vessata da una delle religiose, Catalina fuggì dal monastero a 15 anni, poco prima di prendere i voti. Si finse uomo ed assunse il nome Francisco de Loyola, quindi intraprese un lungo viaggio da San Sebastian a Valladolid. Da qui visitò Bilbao, dove si imbarcò su di una nave e raggiunse l'America spagnola dove si arruolò come soldato col nome di Alonso Díaz Ramírez de Guzmán. Servì sotto vari capitani, compreso probabilmente il fratello, che tuttavia non la riconobbe. Gravemente ferita nel corso di una battaglia nei pressi di Cuzco, confessandosi sul letto di morte rivelò il proprio sesso. Catalina tuttavia non morì e dopo quattro mesi di convalescenza ripartì verso Guamanga. Per evitare altri problemi confessò il proprio sesso al vescovo che la convinse ad entrare in convento. Nel frattempo la sua storia fece il giro del mondo. Nel 1620 fu convocata dall'arcivescovo di Lima, mentre nel 1624 fece ritorno in Spagna. Si recò quindi a Roma e visitò il resto d'Italia, dove raggiunse una fama tale da meritarle una speciale dispensa da parte di papa Urbano VIII che le consentiva di indossare abiti da uomo.
