492p. Ex-library; REBOUND. A hardcover book that has been rebound in imitation leather. Spine barely faded. Library stamps on endpapers and title page. All pages age-toned. Otherwise clean and tight. Good, sturdy reading condition. Volume 21 of THE NORTH AMERICAN REVIEW, the first literary journal published in the United States. Contains the issues for July and October 1825. Some notable features include an essay on the philosopher Thomas Brown in light of his LECTURES ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE HUMAN MIND, recently published in the U.S.; an essay on "Recent American Novels," incorporating reviews of several, such as HOBOMOK by Lydia Maria Child; a review of OCCASIONAL PIECES OF POETRY by John G.C. Brainard; commentary on reports of the American Colonization Society and conditions in Liberia; an essay on the legacy of Lord Byron upon the publication of a memoir by Thomas Medwin; and a review of a book of poems by Edward Coote Pinkney, who was admired by such greats as Edgar Allan Poe and John Greenleaf Whittier.
